The story of Light Consultancy has been a tumultuous one, over ten years in the making. Having held numerous roles in Human Resources and Accounting, the founder of LC experienced many shady and unethical practices within the corporate world. She went through an agonizing struggle as corporations and small businesses continued to pour money into the sex industry irrespective of the company phase they were in: startup, growth, maturity, and even decline. Many turned a blind eye to it, with some insisting it was necessary to turn profits, while others blatantly participated in the depraved acts with no qualms around the consequences of such actions.

With her firsthand encounters of how the corruption weaved its way from the corporate space into the sex industry, her passion for driving change grew. She began working in the field directly with victims and relief organizations around the world, including in the US, Asia, and South America. Through these experiences, coupled with her work in the corporate world, Light Consultancy was born.

She never set out to create her own consulting company, but she saw that the current resources available to help corporations were very generic and lacking, with no true insight into these lascivious acts which were happening on a daily basis across every industry. Only through real field work could the problems and solutions be identified and applied. Her initial prevention work and intervention at sex establishments within the Korean-American community began in her hometown of Los Angeles, CA. Through the hosting of seminars, direct outreach, forging relationships, conducting research out on the field, partnering with NGOs, and spreading awareness on these issues, she was able to create key solutions to help facilitate the transformation of organizations which routinely took part in sexual misconduct. With this success, her organization has spread beyond Los Angeles.

With globalization being a part of many organizations, taking part in misconduct is easier than ever. When employees are thousands of miles away from home and are under intense pressure to close the deal at any cost, morality often takes a back seat to corporate success. However, this disregard for morality does not just impact the individual- it impacts the community, its people, and ultimately the corporation. Corporations must play a huge role in breaking this cycle. The inability to identify ethical boundaries while turning profits has led to an increase in gender inequality and mistrust in enterprises as well as a higher demand for sex workers and sex trafficking.

With the combined efforts of legal experts, survivors, victims, and HR professionals along with LC’s founder’s activism, education, certifications, passion for the business community, humanity, and corporate background, we were able to develop five main strategic programs that can be customized and implemented by HR departments or program managers in any workplace. These initiatives have been tested across a multitude of corporations, both large and small, foreign and domestic with great success. The transformation of corporations to promote ethical practices have the ability to play a significant role in ending the atrocities associated with injustice and improving company culture and branding.
